After lots and lots and lots of hard work, we are proud and pleased to launch the new (1000 times better) website for 2011 and beyond. Before we get into the details of the new site, we need to say thank you to a few people. Firstly, Chris, Dan and Jack from Motherbird who, for their third year running have rolled up their sleeves, turned their iMacs on and have helped us design the new site from scratch. The boys work really hard for us and we can’t tell you how much we appreciate their efforts.
Secondly, we need to officially welcome and thank AndMine. We met Michael, Alan and the rest of the AndMine team in February this year and it has been a brilliant journey so far. We’ve been so lucky to have such a professional and experienced team behind us, it has been a pleasure working with them. They have re-built the entire site, including a new submissions back-end from the ground up! They have worked extremely hard to deliver what we think is a brilliant new site. Big shout out’s to Alan for taking all of our calls (5 or more a day) in the last few weeks!
So, on to the new features. Firstly, we need to point out that not everything is 100% live yet. There are still a couple of pages and minor design things that we will be working on in the lead up to the call for entries, but that being said, the majority of things are up and running. Here is a quick snap shot of some of the new additions.
1. HOME PAGE
The home page is a lot, lot, better than previous years. There are three main parts to it. The first, a custom image area at the top of the page that features an announcement or piece of info that we want you to know about. Each image is created by an illustrator that we invite to create the image for us, with a link on the top right of the image back to that illustrators site. Below this is an area where we display a featured entry and also the most liked and shared posters from the competition. Below that is a simple slider showing the most recent news and events.
2. DESIGNER PROFILES
By far the biggest and most exciting change to this years site is the addition of ‘Designer Profiles’. This year every person who enters the competition will be given their own personal profile page on the site, which will house all of your entries (yes you can submit more than one this year) and it will also give you the option to display things like your email address, personal site/blog, twitter handle, display picture and bio. All designed to help you promote yourself and your work. Click here to see the profiles of last years Top 30 in action.
3. EVENTS PAGE/PLANCAST
We love throwing events and giving presentations so this year we have built in a page that will display all of our events as they are announced. We have also included a live link to Plancast, a social network that allows you to RSVP to any of our events, import them straight to your iCal or other calendar programs and best of all, see who else is going to be there. Check out our events page here.
4. THE BLOG
The new blog is 1 billion times better than the old one. Enough said. If you’re reading this then chances are you have already found it.
5. SOCIAL MEDIA
Take a look around the site as you go and you will see we have added (long overdue) Facebook and Twitter buttons for you to share the posters and links that you like. We are mad about social media here and it is a giant sin that we haven’t had these earlier!
We would love to hear your feedback on the site. If you love it, hate it, or find any problems, please please let us know! Email nick@positive-posters.
Hope you enjoy having a look around.
PS. Next competition opens August 1st, 2011
